Client Vision
The Client wanted safety at the edge of his garden which is elevated above the active roadway between 2000mm and 3000mm, they also wanted to avoid vertical features of traditional railings to complement the horizontal lines of the stone wall. Maintenance was to be minimised due to the difficult access and exposed location.
Key Challenges
The Key challenge was adapting a product that is generally manufactured in modular units to a location which was not only elevated but also sloping with a curve along an active road climbing at levels of over 20% in places, not the usual location for our Killarney Estate Railing which normally lives in flat meadows! The main Contractor needed to replace large sections of the existing wall which was in an unsafe condition and build a retaining wall with a facing utilising the old stone.
Overcoming the Challenges
Eoin Ennis our Contracts Manager liaised with Josh Murray Contracts Director of Shultan to design a suitable fixing for the railing generally using the top of the retaining wall but in certain areas ground fixings. Steps in the wall were designed to accommodate standard panel dimensions where possible and sloped areas were designed and drawn up by our drawing office and fabricated in our Inchicore works, with subsequent Galvanising and Powder Coating (Plasgalv®). Our installation crew worked with Josh and the stonemasons to coordinate the installation with their programme.

Positive Outcomes
We believe the Killarney Estate Railings gives the desired finish to the project gives safety to the users of the garden and merges with the planting plan to give a solution that can expect a 30 year plus maintenance free life with out the need for painting.
