In Munster, Trust Travels Faster Than Price

October 16, 2025

When the person you need is already down the road, everything runs smoother.

Across Munster, keeping things local isn’t sentiment – it’s how good projects get built. And when it comes to construction, that is not just a local quirk – it is common sense.

I have been working across Munster for almost thirty years – from Cork to Limerick, from helipads and car parks to water plants, housing schemes and schools. What clients value most here is not a brochure or a price list. It is having someone who can show up, look at the job, and make the right call.

“If there’s a problem, you’re out there that day or the next. That’s the difference.” – Brian Healy, Sales and Contracts Manager for the Munster Area

Why being local matters

Most tenders look the same on paper. But when the work starts, it is the local knowledge that keeps things moving.

“Some people just want to deal with someone nearby. And that’s fair enough – it means if there’s an issue, I’m there the same day.”

Being on the ground means I can walk a site, read the conditions, and make small adjustments before they become costly. If a spec will not hold up because of a slope, a wall interface, or a public access route, we can flag it early and design around it.

That saves time, avoids rework, and protects the client’s intent.

A lot of what we do across Munster is for Local Authorities – the schools, housing, and public infrastructure that keep the region moving. That kind of work depends on consistency, reliability, and doing things right the first time.

It’s the reason they keep calling.

Beyond the cheapest tender

Going for the lowest price can look smart until the first inspection.

“You can get cheaper. But it mightn’t be up to scratch – the galvanising, the coating, the finish. You’ll see it rusting after a year.”

We make every panel, post, and gate ourselves, which means we are not tied to imported sizes. If a job needs 1.27 metre panels to match a coping or a 400 millimetre trench for anti-animal protection, we make it exactly that way. That flexibility – and the ability to be on site quickly – is what gives Munster projects their edge.

Munster projects that tell the story

1) Cork University Hospital – Helipad (MMD Construction)

Client vision: Create a secure, monitored landing area for emergency helicopters to improve rapid access to treatment at CUH.

Key challenges: A steep site gradient, buried fence requirement to block animal access, and tight coordination with hospital operations.

How we solved them: We installed 2400 mm Kilmainham 358 Mesh, with 400 mm embedded below ground and stepped levels to follow the slope.
All posts were concreted into a trench, then backfilled for stability. Double-leaf and sliding gates were added for controlled access.

Outcome: A secure perimeter supporting critical care transfers from across Munster – over a hundred patients a year. The system performs quietly in the background, which is exactly how safety infrastructure should.

“That job had no room for error. Everything had to be right first time.”

2) Q-Park, Grand Parade (Cork City)

Client vision: Add roof-edge protection to the existing wall on the top floor of a multi-storey car park.

Key challenges: Working in a live car park, keeping the public safe, and restricted vehicle access to the roof level.

How we solved them: Materials were transported on low-bodied vans. We designed and installed a 1200 mm Kylemore Mesh fence, bolted to the existing 1400 mm wall for a total height of 2.6 metres. All works were cordoned off to maintain public safety throughout.

Outcome: A simple but critical upgrade that now provides full safety for customers using the top deck.

“Getting the materials up there was half the battle. Once they were in place, it had to look effortless.”

3) Midleton Waste Water Pumping Station (Geda Construction)

Client vision: Secure the site and prevent public access, particularly from the adjoining train line.

Key challenges: Mixed site zones requiring different solutions, and the need for quick turnaround to stay ahead of programme.

How we solved them: We worked closely with the contractor to select the best fence for each area:

  • Palisade for boundary security
  • Kinsale Mesh for inner pump station and road areas
  • Solid Round-Bar Railings for the front wall

All systems were manufactured in Dublin, including curved panels and special cranked posts, to ensure on-time delivery.

Outcome: A coordinated, multi-system installation that met safety and aesthetic goals without delay.

“There’s no point forcing one product to do three jobs. You match the fence to the environment.”

4) Modulacc Schools Package (Munster Region)

Client vision: Deliver safe, vibrant play areas for three new modular classrooms at Berrings National School (Cork), St John’s National School (Shannon), and St Fergus National School (Glin).

Key challenges: An extremely tight programme, with classroom units fabricated offsite and installed to pre-set concrete plinths.

How we solved them: We pre-fabricated all Playspec Bow-Top Railings in our Inchicore factory, hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated in bright colours.
Coordination with Modulacc’s team meant the fences were ready to install the moment the classrooms arrived.

Outcome: Child-safe, ROSPA-compliant railings completed on time, with colour and finish that complement the new modular builds.

“Off-site projects work best when every part is pre-planned, fencing included.”

What ties them together

Every one of these jobs was designed, built and installed by people who can drive there in half an hour.

That is what clients want across Munster – someone they trust to get it right, and who will be back on site tomorrow if needed. Munster projects do not run on slogans or spreadsheets. They run on relationships, response, and real expertise.

“You can’t buy local knowledge off the shelf. You either have it, or you don’t.”
