MUGA Multi-Use Games Area
Muga is a term given to a Multi-Use Game Area where spaces can be maximised for intensive usage and multiple sports can be played, generally in Ireland GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Basketball and Volleyball. These designs range from just one end with a Goal and Basketball Net which many Local Authorities and Educational Establishments use to enhance an open area without the need to keep a large, enclosed area reserved for sports use. We have recently completed a number of these for South Dublin County Council at Sean Walsh, Rathcoole and Clondalkin Parks. These are sometimes called a Half MUGA or Sports Wall.
More commonly MUGAs are fully enclosed, they are often used in very tight or enclosed area in apartment complexes or inner-city area where space is at a premium. Roof Netting or Ballstop Netting is often necessary to contain balls in such locations, they lend themselves to use in community facilities where allocation of pitch time can be managed. They generally do not comply with official pitch dimensions.
Full size MUGAs can comply with pitch sizes and we recommend fencing your MUGA with our Kinsale,(with a Kicker Board) or our Kinsale Sports Mesh with Rebound Panel built in or The use of specially manufactured structures using our Kilmainham 358 mesh or Specialised steel panel systems which are brilliant for very high risk locations.
We can also supply Standalone Mini Goals and Basket Ball Nets for a spare space in Playground or yard or where a wall can be used as a backing.
