Plasgalv Coated Railings – Belfast
Ormeau Park Is the oldest Municipal Park in Belfast dating from 1871. In 2013 we tendered to replace approximately 700 metres of the perimeter railing that was in a very poor condition, the contract called for the taking down of the existing railing and its disposal off site. Temporary fencing was required to maintain security until the replacement fence was installed. The process of installation apart from Health and Safety issues concerning the location alongside an active road with pedestrians particularly children in the area. The process we adopted to install the railing was to core drill the existing wall for the posts of the railing and to fix with Chemical grout. The existing railing was to be matched closely but we brought present day technology to it by using our Plasgalv® ( plastic coating over full hot dipped galvanising finish) which means the new railing will probably not require painting for over 20 years even though it is near the sea, and will certainly show no rust for over 40 years. It is a safe assumption that this railing will not need replacing for many centuries with minimal maintenance. Another feature of this railing was the requirement to have the tips gold finished, this was a learning curve we had to go through as there was little advice on adding gold to a plastic substrate, but we mastered it in the end.
