Grangecastle ESB 110kv Station
Grangecastle Business Park is home to a number of high profile clients including Pharma and Datacentres. It is also the location of a 110KV ESB Station that serves the Park and surrounding area.
Due to a number of attempted intrusions, ESB Networks made the decision to contact Irish Fencing services who had installed the original palisade fence for advice.
The site borders a public footpath running alongside the Grand Canal so the solution had to be passive, but robust enough to detect attempts to climb, cut or random vandalism and alerting ESB networks to have early warning of a potential incident providing them with time to attend site to intercept intruders, before they can enter the site and cause damage or suffer injury.
The CCTV option was evaluated however, the requirement was early detection of intruders, and CCTV will only detect intruders inside the perimeter.
Our recommendation was for the installation of a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) around the site. In conjunction with our technical partners Sigcom Ltd, we specified South West Microwaves INTREPID™ MicroPoint™ II integrated fence Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) which provides industry leading detection and flexibility.
Irish Fencing Services installed their specially designed Secure tray to the fence which protects the carrier cable from vandalism at the gaps which occur in a palisade fence, the detection cable is then fixed. The tray not only provides additional protection to the detection cable but reinforces the Fence.
This is 500m fence with one double leaf gate. Our solution is zoned so ESB can determine where the intrusion attempt took place, and we can configure the each zone individually to take in to account environmental factors.
