PLASGALV® COATING

The coating which we offer as Plasgalv® was developed by us in the 1970's, at that time it was not possible to offer a powder coating as an addition to a galvanised substrate due to adhesion and application problems. With the assistance of Eolas the Irish State Technology Agency, and UCD we overcame these technical problems and opened the first plant in the UK or Ireland which could provide a polyester over galvanised finish at Kylemore Park in Ballyfermot in August 1979

Plasgalv Coating incorporates full Hot Dip Galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 "Hot dip galvanized coatings on iron and steel articles - with the addition of a factory applied and quality tested powder paint which is applied electrostatically and is made of polyester, suitable for outdoor use. The paint is applied and cured according to powder manufacturer’s instructions.

Plasgalv® offers the following benefits:

a) Factory applied finish lowers cost and risk.

Materials can be delivered in finished condition thus eliminating on site work which requires costly supervision to ensure application of appropriate primers and undercoats, together with the need to ensure that climate conditions for successful application are suitable.

b) Reduced environmental impact.

Environmental considerations and specific national and sectoral regulations are increasingly precluding the use of wet paint systems for the pollutant effects created during their manufacture and application. Polyester Coatings offer the lowest level of emission of Volatile Organic Compounds(v.o.cs) and the highest level of solid content, virtually eliminating emissions and permitting recycling of over- sprayed materials

c) Extended life to first maintenance.

The combination of galvanizing with polyester coating has a synergistic effect extending the life of the coating enabling a significant life to first maintenance to be provided

d) Improved appearance.

The improved visual appearance of the product over a basic galvanized finish offers designers and developers more opportunity to feature steel fabrication in their concepts.
