Operation of Our Automated Domestic Gates
Operation; Automated gates are generally swing or sliding, in Ireland the tradition is for swing gates, but sliding gates are becoming more popular and we would strongly recommend that you at least consider them! Do not be put off by the fact that they might look unusual, we can make them to look exactly like a conventional swing gate. Consider the following; provided you have a space .500mm (1 ft. 8 inches) larger than the size of the opening, for it to run back you can accommodate a sliding gate, the advantages are significant, no loss of parking area which could required to allow a gate to swing, a simpler gate to automate, only one drive motor, and a rack and pinion, one of the simplest of engineering solution! No central “weak spot” for an intruder to pick on. Confidence that the gate is shut, not a worry that the two leaves haven’t quite met in the middle. The addition of automation later if you decide to have a manually controlled gate initially, is far simpler than with a swing gate. There are disadvantages as well! If you already have a driveway there will have to be a track laid in the surface, with reinstatement work after, we will do a neat job but you may see the joins! We can’t cope well with cambers or slopes across the opening and you will have to keep the track clear of leaves, debris, and snow! Recently we have developed an answer to all these problems ! Which is a Cantilever Gate, i.e. the gate has no track and relies on a specially patented bottom bearing rail and especially strengthened hanging post, no damage to existing surfaces, slopes dips and cambers coped with and unless the snow is over 200mm (4 inches) deep it shouldn’t effect your gate. Cantilever domestic gates are a new technology and are more expensive than a conventional sliding or swing gate but they are worth considering.
